Four Tet releases a new version of Durutti Column’s Your Shadow at Morning

Four Tet has released a nine-minute remix of the Durutti Column’s Your Shadow at Morning through London Records. The track comes from Renascent, the group’s first studio album in more than 16 years. Kieran Hebden’s new arrangement places Vini Reilly’s guitar alongside electronic textures, synthesizers and a gradually developing rhythmic pulse.

A composition from Renascent

Electronic musician Kieran Hebden, known as Four Tet, has made a remix of the Durutti Column’s Your Shadow at Morning. London Records has released the nine-minute version with an accompanying visualizer. The original composition belongs to Renascent, the British group’s first studio album in more than 16 years. Hebden’s arrangement adds electronic textures around the guitar playing of Vini Reilly.[1], [2]

Guitar and electronic textures

The new version combines Reilly’s guitar with electronic details and synthesizers, while a rhythmic pulse gradually unfolds. Renascent reunited Reilly with drummer and manager Bruce Mitchell and producer and multi-instrumentalist Keir Stewart. The group’s musical background includes classical guitar, ambient minimalism, jazz and electronic experimentation. Your Shadow at Morning is one of the compositions from this renewed studio collaboration.[1]

Hebden’s recent discovery

Hebden said he had discovered the Durutti Column and explored its catalogue only in the past couple of years. He described its music as an important influence on him and welcomed the announcement of a new album. He then accepted the invitation to remix a track. Other musicians drawn to the group’s work include Blood Orange, Harry Styles, Caroline Polachek, the Avalanches and Yung Lean.[1]
