Garson’s appointment starts in January

Disney has announced a succession at Pixar, its animation studio: Jonathan Garson is to become president, replacing Jim Morris. The change takes effect on 4 January 2027. Garson’s responsibilities cover production and operations, while Pete Docter continues as chief creative officer. The new president most recently served as the studio’s general manager.[1], [2]

Morris keeps a role in Incredibles 3

Morris becomes president emeritus after 21 years at Pixar, including 12 as president. He remains executive producer of Incredibles 3, scheduled for June 2028, and takes on talent development, mentoring and technology projects supporting artists. His Pixar career began in 2005 after senior work at Lucasfilm and its visual-effects business Industrial Light & Magic. He succeeded Ed Catmull as president in 2014.[1]

Rivera’s creative responsibilities expand

Jonas Rivera is also receiving an expanded creative executive vice-president role, overseeing filmmakers and development with Docter and Garson. Rivera joined Pixar in 1994; his producing credits include Up, Inside Out and Toy Story 4. Garson has worked at Disney for more than 30 years and joined Pixar in 2010. Both he and Morris report to Alan Bergman, Disney’s entertainment and studios chairman, who announced the transition.[1]
