Taiwan's August exports hit an all-time monthly high of 82.4 billion dollars

Taiwan's exports rose 41.0 per cent over the year in August to 82.40 billion dollars, while China's increased 25 per cent and produced a monthly trade surplus of 119.09 billion dollars. Imports grew faster than exports in both economies. China's report cites both technology demand and shipments brought forward before tariff uncertainty; the totals do not separate their contributions.

Taiwan's monthly high

Taiwan's August exports rose 41.0 per cent over the year to 82.40 billion dollars. In July, annual growth had been 32.9 per cent and exports stood at 75.30 billion dollars. August imports also increased 44.3 per cent to 60.10 billion dollars, leaving a trade surplus of 22.30 billion dollars. Faster import growth shows movement in production inputs and domestic demand alongside strong export momentum.[1]

Two-way acceleration in China

China's dollar-denominated exports rose 25 per cent over the year in August and imports increased 28.2 per cent. The monthly trade surplus widened from 112.5 billion dollars to 119.09 billion dollars. Import growth also exceeded export growth in Taiwan. The common pattern is strong exports accompanied by faster movement in imported inputs and domestic demand, rather than foreign sales alone.[2], [1]

The value effect of high technology

The dollar value of China's high-technology exports rose 42.9 per cent in the first eight months. Semiconductor export value doubled while volume increased only 4.1 per cent, showing that unit values carried much of the total. The report links strength both to demand for AI products, electric vehicles, solar cells and lithium-ion batteries and to companies rushing goods to the US before tariff uncertainty. Aggregate trade data do not separate the contributions of those factors, and coincidence with Taiwan's 41.0 per cent increase does not by itself prove a common cause.[2], [1]
