Indonesia aims for sugarcane E20 fuel inside two years
RRI reports sugarcane as the preferred E20 feedstock, with land discussed in Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan and Papua, and Danantara to develop processing. Energy minister Zulkifli Hasan said land is the main bottleneck and that the first-step ethanol would be domestic. CNBC Indonesia says President Prabowo chaired a palace meeting targeting E20 implementation in 2028, with a later E50 path. About two million hectares were named as possible cane land.

Sugarcane first, land the bottleneck
RRI reported that sugarcane is the preferred feedstock, with land discussed in Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan and Papua, and that Danantara would develop processing. Energy minister Zulkifli Hasan said land is the main bottleneck and that ethanol for the first E20 step would be domestic. CNBC Indonesia's palace-meeting account also names about two million hectares in Kalimantan, Sumatra, Papua and Java for sugarcane. The two-million-hectare figure is in that palace report, not in a separate land-title gazette.[1], [2]
E20 in 2028, E50 later
RRI says the government also named a longer-term E50 blend target. CNBC Indonesia reports President Prabowo chaired a palace meeting on E20 implementation in 2028 and that Hasan described a stepwise path toward E50 after E20. The 2028 date is the palace-meeting target in that account, not a signed blend mandate in the RRI copy.[1], [2]
Danantara and the import cut
RRI says Danantara would develop processing. CNBC Indonesia quotes Danantara CEO Rosan Roeslani saying the fund supports programmes that cut fuel imports. That meeting, it says, also included Bank Indonesia Governor Destry Damayanti and Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia. RRI does not name those two officials; they appear in the palace-meeting list.[1], [2]
