Revised guidance

Volkswagen cut its 2026 operating profit-margin outlook to at most 1 percent. CNBC reported that the core-brand chief, Thomas Schäfer, said restructuring would accelerate. Volkswagen's own update replaced a previous 4.0 to 5.5 percent range with the new ceiling.[1], [2]

Charges behind the change

Volkswagen cited the Porsche goodwill impairment, a difficult market environment especially in China, and added restructuring costs. Its update said special effects of around 10 billion euros are expected to weigh on operating profit. About 6 billion euros of that amount is a non-cash impairment on Porsche goodwill. Volkswagen said the effects are expected to affect third-quarter profit and loss accounts.[2]

Operating pressure

CNBC described cash-generation pressure from excess European capacity, US tariffs and weaker profits in China. The company also pointed to higher retirement provisions and extra restructuring expenses. These are reported explanations for the revised outlook, rather than a projection of Volkswagen's next results.[1], [2]
