Kilimci jailed, and the count reaches 45
On 25 September, former Turkish central-bank deputy governor Erkan Kilimci was among 19 people newly jailed in the Istanbul fund probe, which brought the number jailed in the probe to 45. He was a deputy governor from 2016 to 2018 and later sat on the board of Tera Yatırım. The prosecutor's office is investigating alleged manipulation in the capital market.[1], [2]
Twenty-one suspects, then the morning's split
DW Türkçe reports that 21 suspects were sent to court. Of that group, 8 were jailed first, 2 were released under judicial control, and 11 were jailed later the same morning, which is how the new arrests reached 19. DW Türkçe put the fund crisis at about 456,000 investors and a size of 891 billion lira. People already jailed include Pusula Holding chair Serdar Turhan and Tera Yatırım chair Emre Tezmen.[1]
The latest 11 jailed
Cumhuriyet says 11 more suspects were jailed after the first wave, and it names Erkan Kilimci on that list, beside Haldun Saffet İnal. The first wave at the courthouse had jailed 8 people and left 2 under judicial control. Judicial control means release without detention, under conditions such as reporting to the authorities or a travel ban. The Istanbul chief prosecutor's office is running the probe.[2]
