Spain welcomes 12.3 million international tourists in August
Spain received approximately 12.3 million international tourists in August, up 9.2 per cent from a year earlier. January–August arrivals reached about 70.4 million, an increase of 5.4 per cent. The United Kingdom, France and Germany were the largest source markets. Among major destinations, Andalusia recorded 21.3 per cent annual growth, while Catalonia’s arrivals rose 9.1 per cent.

August tourist arrivals increase 9.2 per cent
Spain received approximately 12.3 million international tourists during August, an increase of 9.2 per cent from a year earlier. The August figures, released on 2 October, cover tourists arriving from abroad.[1], [2]
Arrivals during January–August reached about 70.4 million, up 5.4 per cent annually. The monthly FRONTUR border-tourism survey, run by Spain’s National Statistics Institute, covers non-resident visitors. It excludes people in transit and same-day visitors from its tourist measure. Interviews are conducted at border crossings on departure.[1]
The UK leads August’s source markets
The United Kingdom supplied about 2.4 million August tourists, up 9.3 per cent annually. France followed with about 2.1 million, an increase of 2.1 per cent. Germany supplied about 1.4 million, up 4.5 per cent. Across accommodation types, tourists using hotels increased 6.6 per cent, while those using rented accommodation rose 13.7 per cent. Non-market accommodation users increased 16.3 per cent.[1]
Andalusia’s arrivals grow 21.3 per cent
Among Spain’s leading destinations, the Balearic Islands received 2,596,458 tourists, up 2.6 per cent annually. Catalonia received 2,380,108, an increase of 9.1 per cent. Andalusia received 2,065,044, growing 21.3 per cent. Over January–August, regional totals reached about 14.3 million in Catalonia, 11.8 million in the Balearic Islands and 11.1 million in Andalusia. The figures count arrivals rather than visitor spending.[1]
