Turkey’s manufacturing contraction pulls industrial output lower in August

Turkey’s industrial production fell 1.9 per cent from a year earlier in August and 1 per cent from July, according to TÜİK figures. Manufacturing declines in both comparisons

Turkey’s industrial output fell 1.9 per cent in August from the same month last year and 1 per cent from July, according to figures from TÜİK, Turkey’s national statistics agency. Manufacturing production declined 2.5 per cent annually and 1.6 per cent monthly. The release, published on October 9, covers August production volumes. The annual and monthly rates compare different periods.[1], [2]

Mining and electricity-related production expand

Mining and quarrying output increased 1.7 per cent from a year earlier and 4.1 per cent from July. Electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning production and distribution rose 1.3 per cent annually and 3.3 per cent monthly. Both groups expanded during the month in which manufacturing contracted. Their gains occurred alongside the decline in the overall industrial total.[1]

High technology rises while capital goods fall

High-technology output increased 14.5 per cent annually and 4.8 per cent monthly. In the separate classification by main industrial group, capital goods production fell 5.1 per cent annually and 3.3 per cent monthly. Durable consumer goods declined 1.5 per cent annually and non-durable consumer goods fell 4.1 per cent. Energy output rose 4.4 per cent annually and 3.4 per cent monthly. Technology intensity, product use and producing sector are separate breakdowns of industrial output.[1]
