TARSİM extends pre-season frost protection from 9 crops to 25

Türkiye’s agricultural insurance programme TARSİM is adding 16 crops to pre-season frost protection for 2027. Walnuts, almonds and bananas are among the additions. The package also expands a plot-based yield pilot to Şanlıurfa and Kayseri and raises insured amounts for hives and greenhouse covers. Agriculture Minister İbrahim Yumaklı announced the changes.

Sixteen crops enter frost protection

Türkiye’s state-backed Agricultural Insurance Pool, TARSİM, is expanding coverage for 2027. Agriculture and Forestry Minister İbrahim Yumaklı announced that protection against frost occurring before the insured period would extend from 9 crops to 25. The Basic Insurance Package is also gaining the same 16 crops. The expansion includes walnuts, almonds, pomegranates and bananas.[1], [2]

Existing pre-season frost protection covers apricots, apples, pears, quinces, peaches, nectarines, plums, cherries and sour cherries. The new list also includes persimmons, mulberries, figs, kiwifruit, jujubes, loquats, medlars, cornelian cherries, rosehips, hawthorn, carob and chestnuts. The announced change broadens the protected crop list for damage arising before the regular insured period begins.[1], [2]

Field-level yield insurance reaches two more provinces

The plot-based yield insurance pilot is expanding from Tekirdağ to Şanlıurfa and Kayseri, all provinces in Türkiye. It is designed to cover yield losses, including drought, at the individual field level. Endeks24 reports that losses are assessed against the farmer’s own plot rather than the village average. The ministry plans a later nationwide rollout.[1], [2]

Income Protection Insurance is adding triticale alongside wheat, barley and rye. Pelemir is entering coverage following producer requests. The starting conditions for hail protection in perennial artichoke cultivation are also changing. The package also covers losses involving wild boars eating male plants in sugar-beet seed production and flood damage associated with opening dam gates.[1]

Hive and greenhouse-cover amounts increase

The insured hive value rises from 5,500 lira to 6,500 lira, and snowfall-related landslide damage is entering beekeeping cover. The greenhouse-cover repair limit rises from 6,500 lira to 8,500 lira. Modernised greenhouses are to receive a 5 per cent premium discount. The tolerance used in risk inspections increases from 15 per cent to 20 per cent.[1], [2]

Cattle breeders selecting the broad coverage tariff can insure calves from their first day of life. For compulsory slaughter associated with infertility, the calving condition is expanding to the 120 days before a policy begins. The ministry’s electronic animal-tag monitoring system has been integrated with TARSİM. A premium discount for veterans and relatives of fallen service members is extending to veterans’ relatives.[1]
