Year-end target covers 900 positions

Nordic and Baltic telecommunications operator Telia proposed reducing approximately 900 positions on 12 October. Employees and resource consultants are covered by the plan. Together with other operating-cost reductions, the company targets annual gross savings of 1 billion Swedish kronor. Norway faces approximately 150 position reductions from a total of around 1,800 positions in the country.[1], [2]

Telia aims to complete the proposed reductions and transfers by 31 December, subject to customary union negotiations. The group had approximately 14,100 positions on 1 October. Intended reductions include 260 in Sweden, 280 in Finland, 110 in Lithuania and 100 in Estonia.[1]

Around 220 roles are proposed for transfer

The company also proposes moving approximately 220 roles, mainly from its common Technology unit, to country units. Telia intends the change to help those units respond faster to customer needs. Under the customer-led model in place since December 2024, group functions are intended to concentrate on strategy, targets, governance and follow-up. The common Technology unit is to retain expertise in areas offering scale advantages, including security and television services.[1]

Restructuring charges are expected to reach 600 million kronor

Telia expects approximately 600 million kronor in restructuring charges in the final quarter. Most of the cash-flow effect is expected in 2027, with the full annual savings benefit and a net positive free-cash-flow effect anticipated from 2028. The company reiterated its current financial outlook and medium-term targets. It plans to provide further information about the financial impact with its third-quarter results on 22 October.[1]
