Benefits receive the 2027 cost-of-living increase
The US Social Security Administration announced a 3.6 per cent cost-of-living adjustment for 2027. The change applies to Social Security beneficiaries under the annual adjustment mechanism. The agency puts the population affected across Social Security and the separate assistance programme at roughly 76 million people.[1], [2]
Nearly 72 million Social Security recipients begin receiving higher payments in January 2027. The separate Supplemental Security Income assistance programme starts higher payments for approximately 7.3 million recipients on December 31. Some people receive both benefits; the combined population includes each person once.[1]
