Interest income accompanies profit growth
ICICI Bank, the Indian lender, reported standalone profit after tax of 148.43 billion rupees for July–September, up 20.1 per cent annually. The corresponding quarter a year earlier earned 123.59 billion rupees. The results cover the second quarter of fiscal 2026–27, ending September 30. The bank published the figures on Saturday, after the preceding stock-market trading session.[1], [2]
Interest income climbed 17.6 per cent to 491.10 billion rupees from 417.57 billion rupees. Net interest income increased 17.7 per cent, reaching 253.39 billion rupees against 215.29 billion rupees previously. Expenses increased 14 per cent. The profit and income amounts are standalone results, rather than a consolidated total including all group operations.[1]
Credit provisions decline as bad-loan share falls
Gross non-performing loans accounted for 1.20 per cent of the portfolio, compared with 1.58 per cent a year earlier. That annual improvement was 38 basis points. During the quarter the bank wrote off 15.92 billion rupees of gross bad loans. Provision coverage on non-performing lending stood at 75 per cent at September 30.[1]
Credit provisions declined to 8.5069 billion rupees from 9.1411 billion rupees a year earlier, a reduction of almost 7 per cent. The net interest margin moved in the opposite direction to the expanding interest-income total: it fell to 4.18 per cent from 4.30 per cent. The annual margin reduction amounted to 12 basis points.[1]
Friday’s share close precedes the results
On Friday, ICICI Bank shares closed 0.55 per cent higher at 1,397 rupees on India’s National Stock Exchange. That close preceded the Saturday earnings release. The quoted 52-week high was 1,480 rupees on July 20, and the low was 1,187.60 rupees on April 2. Market capitalisation at Friday’s close was about 10.03 trillion rupees. Those stock-market figures describe the earlier trading session and the share’s reported price range, alongside the newly published quarterly accounts.[1]
