September orders rise 62.4 per cent
Taiwan’s export orders reached a monthly record of 114.21 billion dollars in September, up 62.4 per cent from a year earlier.[1], [2]
Figures released by the economy ministry on 20 October extended annual growth to a twentieth consecutive month. Orders increased 10.9 per cent from August, or 1.1 per cent after seasonal adjustment. The first nine months brought a total of 819.2 billion dollars, up 56 per cent.[1]
Electronics and communication products lead growth
Electronic component orders reached 47.42 billion dollars, up 71 per cent annually. Information and communication products rose 87.3 per cent to 43.88 billion dollars. Huang Wei-jie, director-general of the economy ministry’s statistics department, identified demand from artificial intelligence, data centres and cloud applications, alongside new smartphone models. Servers, networking equipment and computers were among the products attracting orders.[1]
Optoelectronic orders fall as other industries grow
Optoelectronic orders declined 5.6 per cent to 1.97 billion dollars amid slower flat-panel demand. Machinery orders increased 21.5 per cent to 2.19 billion dollars, while base metals rose 29.7 per cent to 2.43 billion dollars. Chemical products gained 22.8 per cent to 1.71 billion dollars, and plastics and rubber increased 11.4 per cent to 1.53 billion dollars. The series measures foreign orders received by companies, distinct from goods clearing customs during the same month.[1]
