Transfers are planned through July 2027

Indian airline IndiGo and airport operator Adani Airports Holdings plan to start international operations at Navi Mumbai International Airport in February 2027. Their phased programme would transfer twelve daily international departures from Mumbai’s existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Expansion is planned through July 2027. The final dates will be announced after project coordination and the necessary operating approvals.[1], [2]

Domestic connections will move with international services

The existing destinations covered by the transfer are Bahrain, Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Madinah, Kuwait, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Muscat, Dhaka and Jakarta. A new daily Kathmandu service is intended to bring the Navi Mumbai network to twelve international destinations. IndiGo will also move the domestic connectivity needed to support those flights. Adani and the airline are coordinating transfer infrastructure so passengers can connect between domestic and international services at the new airport.[1]

Mumbai’s existing airport prepares for redevelopment

Capacity freed at the existing Mumbai airport is intended to accommodate IndiGo’s international growth across Asia, Africa and Europe in 2027. The domestic transfers will also support the redevelopment of Terminal 1, for which the companies identify a 2030 target. Further adjustments to IndiGo’s Terminal 1 services are to be accommodated at Terminal 2. The plan links the airline’s network changes to a redistribution of capacity across the Mumbai region’s two airports.[1], [2]
