Adjusted earnings rise from a year earlier
Corning, a manufacturer of glass and electronic components, reported adjusted third-quarter earnings of 0.91 dollars per share. A year earlier, the figure was 0.67 dollars. The 2026 quarterly result exceeded analysts’ expectations. The company’s reported sales were 4.86 billion dollars, up 13.6 per cent from the corresponding quarter a year earlier.[1], [2]
Reported sales fell short of analysts’ expectations of 5.05 billion dollars. Corning separately presented core sales of 5.08 billion dollars, a management measure on a different accounting basis. Chief executive Wendell Weeks put growth on that core basis at 19 per cent and core earnings-per-share growth at 36 per cent.[1]
Core margins expand as capital spending continues
Weeks said the core gross margin rose 150 basis points to 40.5 per cent. Core operating margin increased 310 basis points to 22.7 per cent, while the core return on invested capital rose 330 basis points to 16.7 per cent. These margins and returns belong to the company’s core financial measures.[1]
Management reported adjusted free cash flow of 661 million dollars. Weeks said capital expenditure exceeded half a billion dollars as the company invested to address demand for its products. Optical Communications, which makes fibre and cables, accounted for 49 per cent of revenue. Display Technologies, which makes display glass, supplied 31 per cent.[1]
Optical and display businesses carry longer-term growth
At Corning, over the preceding two years, annual revenue growth in Optical Communications averaged 36.6 per cent and Display Technologies averaged 17.8 per cent. Corning’s overall annualised revenue growth was 15 per cent over two years and 6 per cent over five years. Annualised earnings-per-share growth over those periods was 32.2 per cent and 8.6 per cent, respectively.[1]
