Binance pledges to cover losses after crypto theft
Binance promised to use its user protection fund and company resources to cover losses after a theft it valued at about 6.3 billion dollars. Investigators and partners traced and froze some assets. Recovery work continued, and frozen balances did not constitute completed repayments or a final accounting of the exchange’s loss.

Company resources pledged for losses
Cryptocurrency exchange Binance promised to cover all losses from the October 29 theft, which it valued at approximately 6.3 billion dollars. It said the money would come from company resources and its Secure Asset Fund for Users. The pledge concerns the exchange’s response to the theft; completed reimbursement and final loss accounting remained outstanding.[1], [2]
Transfers traced and assets frozen
Blockchain intelligence firm TRM Labs estimated that about 6.36 billion dollars left Binance wallets across ten blockchains. It put frozen assets at roughly 2.7 billion dollars and assets beyond issuer freezing powers at about 2.4 billion dollars. Binance separately said partners had frozen roughly 3 billion dollars. These attributed estimates describe different assessments during the response.[1], [2]
An asset freeze restricts movement of the balance. It does not establish that the money has been returned to Binance or paid to customers. The exchange had not released a final calculation of its own loss after recovery.[1], [2]
Reserve disclosure to follow remediation
Binance suspended deposits and withdrawals during security checks. The company said it was cooperating with law enforcement and blockchain intelligence partners to trace and recover assets. It also promised an updated proof of reserves after remediation. That disclosure was a planned step while investigators continued gathering facts, alongside the company’s assurance that customer funds were safe.[1]
