Two separate security agendas at the White House

Trump's closed meetings with Zelenskyy and Netanyahu were described positively, but one focused on Ukraine's air defence and peace talks while the other centred on Iran and regional coordination.

Same day, separate closed meetings

Donald Trump held separate closed meetings with Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on July 28. The Zelenskyy meeting ran a little over an hour; the Netanyahu meeting lasted about 90 minutes. The White House described both as positive and productive, but issued no detailed readout or press conference after Netanyahu's meeting. Matching positive language does not mean the two agendas produced the same result.[1], [2]

Iran dominates the Netanyahu meeting

According to the Israeli side, Netanyahu's meeting focused mainly on Iran, with the leaders stressing coordination around preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. Saudi Arabia joining the Abraham Accords was also discussed. Yet there is no detailed White House account, and unnamed Israeli officials reported uncertainty about Trump's next strategic moves. The positive presentation therefore does not, by itself, establish a concrete new agreement on Iran.[1]

Defence and negotiations in Zelenskyy's meeting

The concrete topics in Zelenskyy's meeting were licences for joint production of Patriot interceptors in Ukraine and restarting talks to end the four-year war. Trump had approved the licensing arrangement earlier in July. Beneath the same venue and similar public language, one meeting addressed Ukrainian air defence and diplomacy, the other Iran and regional coordination. Positive public framing could still reflect diplomatic presentation rather than a comparable level of commitment across the two meetings.[1], [2]
