Fires at a Belgorod power plant and an Ozon warehouse after Ukrainian strikes
Acting Governor Alexander Shuvaev attributed casualties and fires in Belgorod on Sunday to a Ukrainian attack, with no figure for people hurt; the account has not been independently confirmed. Pepel said a strike hit the thermal power plant. Ozon said its warehouse was hit, staff were evacuated, casualties remained, and it halted operations in the city. Ukraine's attacks on Ozon warehouses last week followed strikes on Wildberries sites that Kyiv officials accused of supplying drone parts. Ozon suspends Belgorod operations after a warehouse hit; Kyiv cites drone parts
The local outlet Pepel said one strike hit the Belgorod thermal power plant, where a fire broke out. The retailer Ozon said its warehouse in the city was hit, that employees were evacuated but there were still casualties, and that it suspended operations in Belgorod. Fedorov seeks US money for a defence technology fund as Khmara eyes an EU loan
Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine's former defence minister, said in an interview published on Aug 30 that he is seeking US investment for a defence technology fund, and Western capital to build and manage weapons development companies he says will help Kyiv resist Moscow. He did not say whether he would benefit financially from the fund, nor give details of his role overseeing it. Ukraine's new defence minister, Yevhenii Khmara, said Kyiv would seek to bring forward part of a European Union loan of 45 billion euros planned for 2027, would lobby allies for greater contributions, and would approach countries that have not yet given.[2]
