Airwars maps a 170 metre damage radius from detonations over Lamerd

A review by the conflict monitor Airwars examines what is believed to be the first combat use of Lockheed Martin's Precision Strike Missile. Three missiles struck the southern Iranian city of Lamerd on 28 February, detonating above a sports complex and two residential neighbourhoods; they killed civilians as far as 50 metre from where they detonated. Airwars found that the total damage radius extended to at least 170 metres. Iranian officials said at least 21 civilians were killed, including seven children.[1], [2]

The third strike hit the Shahid Naimi sports hall

The third strike reportedly hit the Shahid Naimi sports hall, killing at least seven civilians. The PrSM explodes midair and propels tens of thousands of dense metal pellets at high speed in all directions. Lockheed Martin has touted the weapon as the ballistic missile of the future, and the US military is investing billions in an arsenal update with it. Michael Meier, a former US Army adviser on the laws of war, said the PrSM would be hard to use in a densely populated area.[1], [2]

Washington confirms firing PrSMs into Iran and denies attacking Lamerd

Photos, videos and satellite images analysed by Airwars show buildings, streets and vehicles pockmarked in a pattern experts say is consistent with the weapon's capabilities. The US military has confirmed firing PrSMs into Iran but has denied attacking Lamerd. Six weapons experts, two of them former military officials, said they believe PrSMs struck the city.[1], [2]
