The UAE intercepts an Iranian drone and denies a strike on Al Minhad

The United Arab Emirates said it intercepted an Iranian drone over its territorial waters, calling it a blatant violation of sovereignty. The Defence Ministry separately dismissed an Iranian army claim of a strike on the Al Minhad Air Base in Dubai as false. Iran claimed the attack on Al Minhad was in retaliation for the killing of its Revolutionary Guards and civilians on Larak Island during renewed fire between the US and Iran.

The UAE says it intercepted an Iranian drone over its territorial waters

The United Arab Emirates said its air force engaged and intercepted a drone over its territorial waters on Monday that had come from Iran, the Defence Ministry said in a statement, with no reports of damage. The Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the Iranian drone attack as a dangerous escalation and a blatant violation of the country's sovereignty, security and stability, calling it a direct threat to the safety of citizens and residents.[1], [2]

The Defence Ministry denies an Iranian claim of a strike on Al Minhad Air Base

The Defence Ministry later issued a second statement denying reports that the Al Minhad Air Base in Dubai had been targeted by missiles, saying the claims were false. Iran's army had stated earlier on Monday that it attacked the United Arab Emirates' base with drones.[1], [2]

Iran links the attempted strike to deaths on Larak Island

Iran stated the attack on Al Minhad was in retaliation for the killing of Iran's Revolutionary Guards and Iranian civilians on Larak Island. The intercept came after the United States and Iran exchanged fire for the first time in a month: Iranian officials said two people were killed in the US attack on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday night, and Iran responded by launching missiles at US sites in Jordan, which were intercepted.[1], [2]
