Latest account reports four dead and 32 wounded
Lebanon’s health ministry said on Saturday that Israeli strikes across several southern and eastern locations on Friday night killed four people and wounded 32. Those killed included 18-year-old Maryam Salameh. An earlier account had reported three deaths and 15 people wounded in Ramadiyah. The figures come from the ministry and have not been independently verified; AFP spoke with a relative of Maryam Salameh.[1], [2]
Israeli military describes the targets as weapons stores
Israel’s military said the strikes mainly hit Hezbollah weapons stores and infrastructure in the Nabatieh region. According to the military, they were a response to a drone launched towards its soldiers in southern Lebanon on Friday; it reported no injuries among its troops. The reports said five locations were struck across Nabatieh, Tyre and Bekaa. The target descriptions come from Israel’s military and have not been independently verified.[1], [2]
Hezbollah issues its first statement for weeks
Hezbollah, which had not claimed an attack on Israeli targets for weeks, condemned the strikes in a statement on Saturday. It was the group’s first statement since Israel announced it had captured the Ali al-Taher ridge, although the ridge was not mentioned. In Mayfadoun, Ali Suliman told an AFP photographer that his niece Maryam Salameh’s family had returned home only a day after six months of displacement. The updated toll therefore also makes the strikes’ direct civilian impact visible.[2]
