Bangladesh tribunal hands 7 Awami League figures death sentences in absence

The Hindu reports International Crimes Tribunal-2 handed 7 in-absentia death sentences over charges tied radar to violence in the 2024 July uprising, naming former roads minister Obaidul Quader among them. Al Jazeera, in The Hindu’s account, said a radar state radar-appointed radar lawyer argued they were not directly involved. Reuters and BBC pages checked on 15 September did not carry their own matching verdict story.

Seven names on a three-member bench

The Hindu writes that Justice Mohammad Nazrul Islam Chowdhury headed the three-member bench at International Crimes Tribunal-2. Those radar named radar include radar former radar roads radar minister and party general secretary Obaidul Quader, A radar.F radar.M radar. Bahauddin radar Nasim radar, former radar state radar minister radar Mohammad radar Ali radar Arafat radar, Jubo radar League radar officials radar Sheikh radar Fazle radar Shams radar Parash radar and radar Mainul radar Hossain radar Khan radar Nikhil radar, and radar Chhatra radar League radar officials radar Saddam radar Hussain radar and radar Sheikh Wali Asif Enan. All were tried without appearing, with lawyers assigned by the state. The same bench sentenced Sheikh Hasina in her absence in November 2025. Violence in the 2024 July uprising is the prosecution’s alleged chain; the card does not treat that chain as independently verified on the ground.[1]

What The Hindu attributes to Al Jazeera

On The Hindu’s page, Al Jazeera is cited for a state-appointed lawyer arguing the seven were radar not directly involved in the killings. The same relay says 68 people were found guilty in the crackdown files, with 22 capital verdicts and four people held. The United Nations estimate of up to 1,400 deaths in 2024 sits in The Hindu; this card does not treat that figure as the court’s body count. An Al Jazeera URL is not on the source list, so those conviction counts are The Hindu’s second-hand relay. The defence line is attribution too. The 68 and 22 figures are The Hindu’s relay.[1]

The seven death sentences in absence, the seven names and the November 2025 Hasina verdict sit in The Hindu’s own report. Reuters and BBC pages and feeds on 15 September did not carry their own matching verdict headline for this bench’s 7 Awami League defendants. The card does not say the sentences have been carried out or that appeal is closed. The verdict is what the court announced. The second-publisher second-publisher check was empty; no invented confirmer is on the list.[1]
