Beijing meeting
The South China Morning Post reported that Wang Yi met Iran’s Abbas Araghchi in Beijing on Wednesday. Wang called on Tehran and Washington to stay rational. He urged the earliest possible reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and warned that regional tensions must not further spill over into Yemen. Wang urged rebuilding a negotiation mechanism on the consensus already reached.[1], [2]
Islamabad text
Anadolu Agency wrote that Wang Yi urged the United States and Iran to return to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed in June after mediation by Pakistan and Qatar. The call came as Xi Jinping was expected to meet Donald Trump in Washington. Wang said prolonging the conflict is not in the parties’ common interest. AA wrote that both sides should stay rational and hold substantive consultations.[1], [2]
Sanctions shadow
SCMP wrote that Araghchi’s trip to China was his second since the US launched large-scale strikes on Iran. Washington has expanded sanctions and warned of further measures against those it says support Tehran, including Chinese firms. The talks came about a week before an expected Xi–Trump meeting. SCMP said the conflict is likely to sit beside trade and technology at the coming summit.[1], [2]
