Chain blasts hit a Syrian army site south of Aleppo

Al Jazeera, citing SANA, said explosions at a Syrian army site near al-Eis south of Aleppo early Monday injured at least four people. Anadolu Agency, also citing Syrian state media, described a military site and local reports of a Defence Ministry ammunition depot, without an immediate casualty count.

Four injured, roads closed

Al Jazeera, citing SANA, said the blasts were at a Syrian army site near al-Eis, south of Aleppo, early Monday. Faisal Mohammad Ali, head of civil defence operations in Aleppo, told SANA rescuers had evacuated four injured people. Correspondent Obaida Hitto said a series of blasts followed the first explosion, audible kilometres away, with ambulances and fire trucks entering the site. Governor Azzam al-Gharib urged residents to stay home. Internal security closed roads.[1]

A depot, according to local sources

Anadolu Agency, on 21 September, said Al-Ikhbariya reported powerful explosions in al-Eis in Aleppo's southern countryside. SANA later said a blast at a military site was followed by a continuous series of secondary explosions. Local sources said the site was a Defence Ministry ammunition depot. Aleppo's Internal Security Directorate put personnel on high alert and closed the Aleppo-Damascus highway and roads to the area. Anadolu said no casualty figures were immediately available.[2]

Same town, two accounts

Al Jazeera and Anadolu Agency both locate the Monday blasts in al-Eis south of Aleppo and cite Syrian state media. Al Jazeera reports a four-person evacuation. Anadolu reports no casualty figure; the local sources calling the site a Defence Ministry ammunition depot appear only in its account. The governor's instruction and the internal-security road closures stand in the Al Jazeera file. Neither account gives a cause for the explosions.[1], [2]
