Argentina opens a citizenship route through contributions or government bonds

Argentina has announced a citizenship-by-investment programme for foreign applicants, with applications expected in the final quarter of the year. The alternatives are a non-refundable $350,000 Treasury contribution or an $800,000 government bond investment. Extra payments apply to family members, and officials say applicants will face national-security and financial-integrity checks.

Applications are planned for the final quarter

Argentina announced a citizenship-by-investment programme on October 2, with applications expected to open in the final quarter of the year. The Argentine government presented the initiative in Paris as part of its efforts to attract foreign investment. Economy Minister Luis Caputo announced the launch, creating a route for foreign applicants to seek Argentine citizenship.[1]

A contribution and a bond offer two routes

The main contribution route requires a non-refundable payment of $350,000 to the Argentine Treasury. The alternative is an $800,000 investment in a government bond created for the programme. Spouses may be included for an additional $100,000, and each child under 18 for $25,000.[1], [2]

Two adults and two children would therefore pay $500,000 under the contribution option.[1]

Applicants face security and financial checks

Officials say applicants will undergo national-security and financial-integrity screening, including anti-money-laundering controls and checks on the origins of funds. The assessment will also examine identity, financial background, criminal records and immigration history. The agency overseeing the programme will send its recommendation to the national migration authority, which will approve or reject each application.[1]
