Six documents accompany the leaders’ talks

Cambodia and Vietnam signed six cooperation documents during Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung’s visit to Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s capital. Hung held talks with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on October 9. The leaders also reaffirmed their ambition to increase bilateral trade to 20 billion dollars.[1], [2]

One memorandum concerns construction of the National Center for Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation in Cambodia’s Svay Rieng province. Another covers education cooperation for 2026–2030. The package also addresses preservation of the Cambodia–Vietnam Friendship Monument, security cooperation, a Joint Trade Committee and measures to enhance bilateral trade.[1]

Hun Manet presents trade figures

Hun Manet reiterated the long-term 20 billion dollar trade target at the October 9 business forum. He said bilateral trade reached 6.6 billion dollars in the first nine months of 2026. Hung also met Cambodia’s Senate President Hun Sen, who encouraged expansion towards that target.[1]

Cambodia’s customs authority put exports to Vietnam at nearly 3 billion dollars in the first eight months, up 7.6 per cent. Vietnamese exports to Cambodia were 3 billion dollars, up 6.4 per cent. The leaders’ discussions included investment, agriculture, energy, vocational education and infrastructure connectivity.[1]

The neighbours prepare their diplomatic anniversary

The two countries mark sixty years of diplomatic relations in 2027. Their leaders encouraged ministries, institutions and young people to organise commemorative events. Talks also covered exchanges between young people in border provinces and broader contacts between the populations. Hun Manet called for joint tourism promotion and packages connecting different destinations.[1]
