Kim reaches Dandong across the new bridge

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited Dandong, the Chinese border city in Liaoning province, on October 24 after crossing the newly opened New Yalu River Bridge. South Korean broadcaster SBS cited a government source for his arrival. The crossing connects Dandong with Sinuiju in North Korea, the main trading gateway between the neighbours.[1], [2]

Wang Huning calls for wider trade and exchanges

According to Chinese state news agency Xinhua’s account, Kim met Wang Huning, chairman of China’s political advisory body, the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. Wang conveyed greetings from President Xi Jinping. He proposed expanding personal exchanges and economic cooperation following the bridge’s official opening on October 15. Kim said North Korea wanted to continue the countries’ historic friendship and expand cooperation to bring practical benefits to both populations.[1]

A factory visit precedes the return crossing

Xinhua said Kim and Wang toured an automobile factory in Dandong after their talks and received a briefing on the vehicle industry. Wang Huning and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi accompanied Kim to the bridge as he returned to North Korea after the day visit. Wang Huning had also visited North Korea in July; the programme’s meeting and departure details come from the Chinese state agency.[1]
