European forces to rehearse a possible Ukraine mission in Poland

Britain and France will lead Exercise Koalicja in Poland on 9–22 November to prepare a multinational force for a possible mission in Ukraine. The rehearsal will test command, protection and supply. Any deployment still depends on how fighting ends and on national political decisions; the proposed mission would operate outside NATO command.

Poland hosts the multinational rehearsal

Britain and France will lead Exercise Koalicja in Poland on 9–22 November, preparing a multinational force that could serve in Ukraine after a peace agreement. The programme will rehearse moving, protecting and supplying personnel, as well as command arrangements linking national contingents.[1], [2]

Aircraft rehearse support for civilian flights

About 2,800 personnel will take part across land, sea and air. Britain plans to contribute approximately 300 troops and two Typhoon fighters from its Royal Air Force. The aircraft will simulate reassurance for commercial aviation once Ukrainian airspace can reopen. Türkiye has agreed to lead the maritime component, with clearing Black Sea mines and restoring trade among its eventual objectives.[1]

Deployment depends on national decisions

Western officials say the proposed force would reassure Ukraine and help rebuild its armed forces while operating outside North Atlantic Treaty Organization command. Its mission would exclude offensive operations, frontline fighting and ceasefire monitoring. The United States has joined discussions but is not contributing to the mission. Final contributions depend on how hostilities end and each country’s political decision. Russia opposes foreign troops in Ukraine; officials say the force would be able to defend itself but have not detailed its rules of engagement.[1]
