Medical supplies reach city hospitals
The International Committee of the Red Cross delivered four trucks of medical supplies to Taiz, a city in Yemen, on November 4. The shipment included surgical kits for hospitals treating people wounded by weapons. The delivery took place as continued fighting put additional pressure on already strained health facilities.[1], [2]
Convoy follows a gap in deliveries
Red Cross spokesman Hachem Osseiran told AFP that this was the organisation’s first delivery of medical supplies to hospitals in Taiz city since September 23. He said the shipment could not meet all the population’s needs. The four trucks brought materials to support treatment amid shortages, while access to areas heavily affected by fighting remained difficult.[1], [2]
Red Cross calls for sustained access
Christine Cipolla, head of the Red Cross delegation in Yemen, called for safe, sustained access so impartial aid could reach people wherever they were. She urged protection of health facilities, the wounded and the sick, and said medical personnel must be able to continue working. Severely wounded people and patients with critical conditions need timely care regardless of which side of a front line they occupy.[1]
The organisation had also supplied emergency materials to hospitals near front lines in recent weeks, including Al Rahidah, Taiz Military, Hayfan and Taiz Central hospitals. Its support additionally covered Demnat Khadir primary healthcare centre, Al-Dumay Al-Ahkum Hospital and the Taiz Health Office.[1]
