Kennedy will oversee four ceremonies
LA28, the organising committee for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, appointed film producer Kathleen Kennedy as head of ceremonies and content on 28 October. She will lead delivery of the opening and closing ceremonies for both Games, serving as their executive producer. Her work covers the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and 2028 Stadium, as well as content for worldwide audiences. Kennedy succeeds Peter Rice, who will continue as an executive producer.[1], [2]
Preparations move towards production
Kennedy joins as the ceremonies move from early development towards production and execution. Ben Winston will serve as executive producer and creative director, while Scott Givens is executive producer of production. FulFive, a new production entity formed by entertainment companies Fulwell Entertainment and FiveCurrents, will support the ceremonies. Kennedy said Rice had laid the groundwork and welcomed the prospect of working with Winston and the wider team. She and her husband, fellow producer Frank Marshall, have attended virtually every Olympics since Los Angeles in 1984.[1], [2]
Olympic opening is scheduled for 14 July 2028
The Olympic opening ceremony is scheduled for 14 July 2028, with the closing on 30 July. The Paralympic opening follows on 15 August and the closing at the Coliseum on 27 August, marking Los Angeles’s first Paralympic Games. Kennedy has received eight Academy Award nominations and led the film company Lucasfilm from 2012 to 2026. She founded The Kennedy/Marshall Company with Marshall in 1992; they received the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award in 2018. She also co-founded the production company Amblin Entertainment with Marshall and Steven Spielberg.[1]
