Martín cleared to continue Malaysian GP after wrist review

Jorge Martín received medical approval to continue the Malaysian Grand Prix after opening practice on Friday. The Aprilia rider had broken his wrist in the Phillip Island sprint, and Thursday’s initial clearance required another assessment after riding. Team manager Paolo Bonora said the fracture was undisplaced and urged him to avoid taking risks.

Post-practice examination clears Martín

Aprilia rider Jorge Martín received medical clearance to continue the Malaysian MotoGP Grand Prix after Friday’s opening practice at Malaysia’s Sepang circuit. Martín had fractured his wrist during the previous weekend’s sprint at Phillip Island . Thursday’s initial permission to ride required a further medical assessment once he had completed the first track session. Aprilia confirmed that the subsequent examination had cleared him to race.[1], [2]

An undisplaced fracture requires caution

Aprilia team manager Paolo Bonora said the fracture was undisplaced and emphasised the need to avoid another fall onto the injured wrist. His advice was for Martín to continue only if he felt able to finish safely. The additional examination after practice was part of the conditions for his return, with the team having explained the procedure before he rode on Friday.[1]

Martín returns for practice starts

Martín needed help to put on his gloves and helmet. On the track, he showed no obvious difficulty and discussed motorcycle set-up with his team between runs. He also chose to return for practice starts after the session had ended. The medical decision followed that first opportunity to assess how he coped with riding after the injury.[1]
