Gold Gloves go to nine first-time winners

Nine of the 20 Gold Glove recipients collected Major League Baseball’s fielding award for the first time. Boston and Arizona each supplied three winners, while Christian Walker and Matt Olson earned their fourth awards. The selection combines managers’ and coaches’ votes with a statistical defensive measure for the standard playing positions.

Nine players collect their first award

Nine players won their first Gold Glove among the 20 recipients announced for this season. The awards recognise fielding in Major League Baseball, the top North American professional baseball competition. The winners included both established recipients and players receiving the defensive honour for the first time.[1], [2]

Christian Walker, the Houston Astros first baseman, and Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson each reached four awards. Walker’s earlier wins came in 2022, 2023 and 2024; Olson had previously won in 2018, 2019 and 2025. Atlanta’s Mauricio Dubon took his third utility award, for players who cover multiple positions.[1]

Boston and Arizona each have three winners

Boston right fielder Wilyer Abreu won for the third consecutive season. He was joined by centre fielder Ceddanne Rafaela, a second-time winner, and third baseman Caleb Durbin, a first-time recipient. Arizona also had three winners: catcher Gabriel Moreno earned his second award after winning in 2023, while shortstop Geraldo Perdomo and right fielder Corbin Carroll were honoured for the first time.[1]

Coaches’ votes combine with defensive statistics

For the nine standard positions, each club’s manager and up to six coaches vote without selecting players from their own team. A statistical fielding measure supplies approximately 25 per cent of the evaluation. The utility award uses a separate calculation incorporating additional statistics. Of all 20 recipients, 11 had won before this season.[1]
