Surgery was completed in Madrid
Spanish motorcycle racer Álex Márquez has started recovering at home after an operation in Madrid. The Gresini rider, who competes in the premier MotoGP championship, said plates and fixation material were removed from his right collarbone and left hand. The same operation addressed a problem in his right shoulder. He said the surgery had passed without complications.[1], [2]
Persistent shoulder pain brought the operation forward
Márquez had originally intended to have the operation after the season but brought it forward as shoulder discomfort persisted. He had suffered a serious crash at Montmeló in May and undergone an earlier operation on his collarbone. In the latest procedure, surgeons also removed a small sac around the shoulder through arthroscopy, a technique using small incisions to reach the joint.[1], [2]
Qatar is ruled out as Portugal becomes the target
The operation means Márquez will miss the Qatar Grand Prix. His target is to return for the Portuguese round at Portimão, scheduled for 20-22 November. That remains an intended comeback rather than confirmed medical clearance. Recovery begins at home after physical problems that had affected his recent races and led him to change the timing of the operation.[1], [2]
