The possessions that brought them back

Bryce Jones’s late basket took TOFAŞ into overtime. A few possessions earlier, the visitors had been the team with no need for an extra period. Treshawn Thurman’s three made it 89–82 with 3 minutes 23 seconds remaining in regulation in Napoli. The hosts ultimately won 105–101. The distance between those scores separates two tasks: building a comeback and converting a recovered lead into a finished game.[1]

TOFAŞ had trailed 53–42 at halftime and still faced a seven-point deficit entering the fourth. Zach Nutall helped turn that deficit into a lead, and Thurman’s outside shot extended the reward. Jones scored 32 and Shavar Reynolds 22, showing where much of the scoring came from. Those totals, however, cannot value each closing possession. Producing more points and producing them on the possessions that preserve a lead are different measures.[1]

The three-pointer worked both ways

Napoli cut 89–82 to 89–88 with two threes, and Markel Brown later supplied another to level the score. Alongside TOFAŞ’s missed outside shots, those makes erased the visitors’ advantage within a handful of possessions. The narrow lesson is that the speed offered by the three-point shot belongs to both teams. A seven-point lead behaves differently when one side stops scoring: each empty trip gives the opponent’s next outside shot more room to change the margin.[1]

That sequence does not prove Massimo Cancellieri’s offensive structure collapsed. Ordinary shooting variance is a plausible rival explanation: comparable choices can produce misses on one trip and makes on another. Napoli’s consecutive successes and TOFAŞ’s empty possessions changed the finish together. A more useful reading than declaring a permanent team identity is to keep both halves of each exchange in view: the shot created on offence and the response allowed at the other end.[1]

Overtime started the contest again

After Jones forced overtime at 93–93, Napoli opened the extra period with a 6–0 run. TOFAŞ had to recover again. Reynolds’s three with 3.7 seconds left made it 102–101, before the hosts completed the win with free throws. The late make mattered, but it did not remove the cost of starting overtime six points behind.[1]

The work TOFAŞ carry away cannot be reduced to asking Jones for a bigger total. The production needed to recover was already there. The difficulty was preserving both scoring and defensive returns across the possessions after taking the lead. The same team played the successful comeback and the losing finish. Reducing the assessment to the heroism of the final basket would miss how control changed hands.[1]
