Early access and languages
A post signed by Amazon India Alexa country manager Teena Sidana said Alexa+ entered early access today. It said the assistant speaks English, Hindi and Hinglish, can switch languages inside a sentence, and that more Indian languages would follow. It is on eligible Echo speakers and displays, Fire TV devices and the Alexa app. It is free for all customers during early access and, after that period, stays free for Prime plan members.[1]
Two thousand rupees
The Times of India said that after early access, Prime Lite, Prime Shopping Edition and non-Prime customers would pay 2,000 rupees a month or take a Prime plan. Fortune India repeated the 2,000-rupee monthly figure. Fortune India said Amazon is rolling out Alexa+ in India from 16 September and that 99 percent of existing Echo devices in India support the service.[2], [3]
An assistant for the household
The Times of India quoted Sidana saying the assistant was built for multilingual Indian households.
