France and North America
Mistral wrote that Firefox Smart Window beta is now powered by its models. It said the assistant helps with complex searches, recalling a page the user left, and finding sources from open tabs. It named France and North America for this launch, with the United Kingdom and Germany expected later this year. It said conversations are not saved on Mozilla’s servers by default and that Mistral agreed to zero data retention.[1]
Small 4 and other models
Mozilla said Mistral Small 4 is coming to Firefox Smart Window beta for users in the United States and Canada, while the beta and French-language support expand to Firefox users in France. Across those markets users can still choose other models. Mozilla framed the work as an open-source alternative to Big Tech-default browser ecosystems. Co-founder Arthur Mensch stressed privacy, control and choice.[2], [1]
Chats kept off Mozilla’s servers
Mistral said it accepted zero data retention and that conversations are not stored on Mozilla’s servers by default. Mozilla’s post stressed that model choice inside the browser stays open, against a closed-model default. Both pages describe the same optional Smart Window beta assistant. The United Kingdom and Germany timetable appears only in Mistral’s note.[1], [2]
