Anthropic opens Singapore office with government safety cooperation

Anthropic opened its Singapore office alongside a government agreement covering model evaluation, safety and responsible adoption. Its fifth Asia-Pacific office adds a local base as the company plans technical exchanges and skills support for businesses and public institutions. The cooperation builds on earlier multilingual testing work with Singapore’s AI assurance bodies.

A fifth Asia-Pacific office

AI developer Anthropic opened its Singapore office on 14 October, adding a local base to its Asia-Pacific operations.[1], [2]

The new location is the company’s fifth office in the region. The opening accompanies a memorandum with Singapore’s Ministry of Digital Development and Information, signed during Singapore International Cyber Week. Permanent secretary Kai Fong Chng and Anthropic co-founder Ben Mann signed the document.[1]

Model testing and adoption research

The memorandum covers model evaluation, AI safety and security, research into adoption and its effects, and responsible use in public and private organizations. Anthropic plans technical exchanges with Singapore’s safety and assurance institutions on testing standards and incident response. It also intends to contribute data from its Economic Index, which measures Claude activity, to research on adoption.[1]

Skills support builds on earlier testing

Skills support is planned for small and medium-sized businesses, civil servants and researchers. The cooperation follows Anthropic’s participation in Singapore’s AI evaluation sandbox in 2023, when adversarial testing covered English, Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. The company says more than 1,500 engineers and technical staff at GovTech, Singapore’s government technology agency, already use its Claude Code programming tool.[1]
