AMD processors are planned for training and inference
Scaleway, the European cloud provider within the iliad group, has announced an AI supercomputer in Sweden, its first outside France. The planned system uses AMD Instinct MI355X graphics processors and ROCm, AMD’s software environment for running compute workloads. Scaleway targets European startups, AI companies and enterprises. Its intended uses include training models and inference, the process of using a trained model to produce results.[1], [2]
Bull takes responsibility for installation and maintenance
Hardware and operating responsibilities are divided among six partners. AMD supplies accelerators and software, and Giga Computing supplies servers. Bull integrates the racks and cooling system, installs the cluster in the data centre and continues hardware maintenance. HPE Networking supplies Ethernet connections within the system. VAST Data supplies the platform delivering data to compute, while Motul provides liquid-cooling fluid for high-density hardware.[1]
The Swedish deployment builds on the Tele2 partnership
The project expands Scaleway’s presence in northern Europe and follows its partnership with Swedish telecommunications company Tele2. Scaleway cites Sweden’s largely low-carbon electricity mix among its reasons for choosing the location. Chief executive Damien Lucas connects the deployment with deeper cooperation with AMD and the company’s Swedish expansion. Scaleway has not disclosed the processor count, reserved electrical capacity, total investment or a specific opening date for customers. The announced responsibilities include continuing support after the physical installation.[1]
