Qwen N1 glasses add Himax’s always-on vision processor

Himax’s WiseEye HX6538 processor has been integrated into Alibaba’s Qwen N1 smart glasses. The supplier describes a separate sensing layer that can detect people or events on the device and wake the main system when needed. The architecture aims to keep visual awareness active without running the host continuously; its battery benefits have not been independently tested.

A separate processor keeps visual sensing active

Himax Technologies, a Taiwan-based chip designer, announced on 14 October that its WiseEye HX6538 processor has been integrated into Alibaba’s Qwen Glasses N1 smart glasses. The deployment adds an always-on visual sensing layer to the wearable device.[1], [2]

According to Himax, this layer operates independently of the conventional image-capture system. The lower-power sensing processor and the host system have separate roles, allowing the glasses to monitor their surroundings without keeping the host continuously active.[1]

Local models decide when to wake the host

Small visual-recognition models evaluate inputs on the device. Himax lists human detection and event recognition among the tasks. When a relevant event or a person is detected, the sensing processor can selectively wake the host for further artificial-intelligence processing. Himax calls this tiered visual wake-up.[1]

The chip combines a processor core and a neural accelerator

The HX6538 combines an Arm Cortex-M55 processor core with an Ethos-U55 neural processing unit for running small vision models locally. Himax develops display drivers, imaging components and WiseEye products for small devices. The company presents the glasses’ division of processing work as a way to reduce energy use and extend battery life; no independent comparative device test accompanies that claim.[1]
