Cybercab opens its rear camera to riders as an engineer describes Grok’s role
Passengers in Tesla’s Austin Cybercabs can now open the rear-camera view during a ride. An interface engineer explained the screen controls, while senior engineer Yun-Ta Tsai said Grok helped tune the human-facing view and program part of its algorithm. His account concerns development of the passenger display; it supplies no measured result about autonomous-driving safety.

Riders can open the rear view during a trip
A rearward view is now available to passengers through the cabin display during trips in Tesla’s Cybercab. The vehicles operate in Austin, in the US state of Texas. Rider Ethan McKanna shared an image of the feature being used inside a vehicle. A Tesla interface engineer, Evan, explained how passengers can tap the picture to switch to additional cameras. Sliding it up or down controls whether the view stays visible. The feature had previously been described as under development.[1]
A Tesla engineer describes Grok-assisted tuning
Grok helped with tuning the image shown to passengers, according to Yun-Ta Tsai, who holds a senior engineering role at Tesla’s Super Intelligence AI team. Tsai said the model directly programmed fixed-function hardware to implement part of the algorithm. Such hardware consists of chip blocks dedicated to particular tasks. He said he could do this work without looking up the hardware datasheet. His account leaves the chip’s identity, the precise algorithm portion and the code-testing procedure unspecified.[1]
The update concerns the passenger display
The passenger camera view serves a different function from camera processing for autonomous driving. TeslaNorth’s account provides no measured driving-safety result or quantified gain in development speed. Tesla has issued no official feature release notes. Whether the same view reaches Model Y Robotaxi vehicles remains uncertain. The documented change gives Cybercab passengers access to the rear view during their ride.[1]
