Canva restructuring affects 1,271 staff as product teams merge
Canva’s reorganization will affect 1,271 employees through changed roles, relocation requests and departures. The figure covers 22% of its workforce, rather than a disclosed total of job cuts. Product, Growth and Platform teams will merge into one organization, more product work will centre on Sydney, and most hybrid employees face revised office attendance expectations from January.

Roles, locations and jobs change
Design platform Canva has announced a restructuring affecting 1,271 employees. Co-founder and chief executive Melanie Perkins outlined the changes to staff.[1], [2]
The total represents 22 per cent of the workforce and includes people whose roles will change, those asked to relocate to centralised hubs and employees leaving the company. Perkins has not given a separate count for each group. She told staff she had considered alternatives and concluded that smaller changes would not be enough.[1]
Product teams become one organisation
Canva will combine its Product, Growth and Platform teams into one product organisation, according to Perkins. The plan simplifies management layers and consolidates overlapping responsibilities. Perkins wants smaller teams with the authority to make decisions and take ownership of their work. Sydney will become the main base for more product teams and other roles requiring close collaboration.[1]
January brings new office expectations
From January, Canva asks most hybrid employees to spend 2–3 days a week in an office, with arrangements depending on their area. Employees leaving the company will receive at least 6 months of salary, 12 months of healthcare coverage and career-support resources.[1]
