Embodied AI unveils AIR with cable-driven arms for factory work

Swiss robotics company Embodied AI has presented AIR, a wheeled machine designed to work alongside factory employees. Its motors sit in the torso and move lightweight arms through cables. The company plans to teach tasks using data from remotely operated shifts, with a human operator available when unfamiliar situations arise.

Heavy drives stay in the torso

Embodied AI, a robotics company based in Lausanne, Switzerland, presented AIR at the Humanoid Europe event in Munich, on November 6. The robot carries a head, torso and two arms on a wheeled base. Motors and gears sit in its torso rather than its arms. Cables resembling tendons transmit movement to the arms, which are designed to yield when touched.[1], [2]

An operator supplies the first examples

The proposed deployment starts with a human operating the machine remotely during its first shift. Data from those movements is used to teach the task. Embodied AI’s software combines models tailored to particular jobs, while an operator remains available for unfamiliar situations. The company previously used the software in a two-arm industrial cell supplied to a customer before AIR was built.[1]

Industrial pilots precede wider delivery

The company describes pilot work involving a consumer-electronics manufacturer and an automotive and industrial-technology supplier, without naming the customers. It plans to open orders following the unveiling. European CE conformity marking is a target for 2027. The physical design and deployment process are the company’s stated approach to factory work.[1]
