Nigeria's central bank cuts its policy rate by 350 basis points to 23 percent
Punch reports that the Monetary Policy Committee cut the benchmark rate by 350 basis points, from 26.5 percent to 23 percent. Governor Olayemi Cardoso called it a recalibration that keeps a restrictive stance, not an easing. Nairametrics reports the same cut, from 26.5 percent to 23 percent, at the 307th meeting, and describes it as the biggest since 2006. A figure of 27.5 percent as the old rate appears in another outlet and is rejected.
One hundred optical channels teleported quantum states in parallel
Researchers used a programmable 10×10 array to teleport quantum states across 100 spatial optical modes in parallel and reconstruct a 100-pixel “Q.” ScienceAlert reports an average fidelity of 0.60 against a 0.52 classical limit, while Phys.org describes the shared all-optical feedforward that processes every channel at once. The laboratory result demonstrates bandwidth and reconfigurability; it does not yet constitute a long-distance quantum network.
PhonePe wins initial UAE approval for two payment licences
PhonePe received initial in-principle approval from the Central Bank of the UAE for retail-payment and stored-value services. Final approval is still required before a commercial launch. Moneycontrol and Khaleej Times both report that the UAE would be the company's first market outside India.
Profilin controls two separate pathways in migrating cells’ actin network
CRISPR experiments showed that profilin regulates actin networks at the leading edge of migrating cells through two separable routes: it supports Arp2/3 localization while altering capping-protein effects through Ena/VASP. TU Braunschweig and Phys.org report the same cell study, while a mathematical model suggests Ena/VASP and capping protein compete for a shared recruitment mechanism. The result explains a mechanism of cell movement; it does not demonstrate a cancer or infection treatment.
Record diesel prices intensify US calls for an export ban
The Financial Times and The Guardian reported Republican Senator Chuck Grassley's call for President Donald Trump to embargo diesel exports, citing pressure on farmers. Representative Tim Burchett's separate bill would keep an export ban through January 2027. Energy Secretary Doug Burgum argued that such a restriction would not lower prices. The proposals remain political and legislative demands rather than an enacted federal policy.
RetroChimera tests synthesis routes against chemists' preferences
RetroChimera searches for routes from a target molecule to available starting materials by combining models with different inductive biases. The Nature paper describes tests on rare reactions and plausible-looking incorrect suggestions. A team including Microsoft Research, GSK, and Novartis compared the proposals with organic chemists' preferences; evaluation in real discovery settings remains the next step.
Short logic warnings helped people sort climate arguments
Across four preregistered experiments, brief warnings about possible fallacies improved how people told stronger climate arguments from weaker ones. Prior beliefs still weighed most heavily when the setting was neutral. The result belongs to a controlled task with 4,000 participants, not to a measured change in daily behavior.
SoftBank launches 10 billion dollars and 1 billion euros of bonds for OpenAI
SoftBank launched sales of 10 billion dollars and 1 billion euros of unsecured bonds to finance its OpenAI investment. The dollar debt is split across three maturities and the euro debt across two, with pricing expected on 24 September. At the planned size, the transaction would be the largest non-financial corporate bond deal ever completed in Asia-Pacific and Japan.
Spain ties a year of AI adoption to oversight, skills and infrastructure
Spain has set a 12-month IA360 roadmap that tries to speed business use of artificial intelligence while tightening oversight, cybersecurity and education. El País and Euronews both describe a national agreement on how the technology affects working life, curriculum changes, and closer scrutiny of frontier models. The plan is a government programme, not a law that has already taken effect.
systemd 262 ships a canary for unreviewed AI contributions
Phoronix reports that systemd 262 shipped on 22 September with a canary for detecting unreviewed artificial-intelligence or large-language-model contributions. ByteIota's own headline the same day says the release ships that AI canary. The shared fact is the marker in the stable release, not a line-by-line reading of the patch.
