Googlebook passes on-screen context to Gemini through the pointer
Googlebook places Gemini in the pointer and dictation flow of an Android-based desktop. Magic Cursor, which Google calls Magic Pointer, connects selected text and images to Gemini, while Rambler turns rambling speech into edited text. The platform also brings Android apps, phone files, and task continuity to the laptop, while support for existing Chromebooks continues.
Grok 4.7 arrives with a larger base model for long tasks
SpaceXAI released Grok 4.7 for coding and knowledge work through the Grok API, Grok Build, Cursor, and third-party tools. The model uses a larger base model, and its reinforcement-learning phase gives more weight to tasks lasting hours. The company also says it improved long-context management and self-checking. Published performance results remain company measurements.

The Financial Times and The National reported Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al Ansari's proposal for a postwar relationship with Iran built on economic interdependence, regional dialogue and security guarantees. United Arab Emirates presidential adviser Anwar Gargash also called for a new approach between Arab states and Tehran. The statements point toward a shared search for a framework, but no negotiated or signed agreement has been announced.

Incendiamoeba divides at 63 °C, past the cited 60 °C eukaryotic mark
NASA reports that Incendiamoeba cascadensis, collected in Lassen Volcanic National Park, divides at 63 °C and keeps moving at 64 °C. The Cell paper it cites put the previous eukaryotic ceiling at 60 °C. The amoeba stays partly active at 66 °C and can recover after five minutes at 70 °C. Science News reports the same organism dividing at 145 °F, which is 63 °C, in a Cell paper dated 22 September.
Infrastructure damage tracked with higher death tolls across 79 disasters
Needs assessments after disasters tied the largest death tolls to damage in energy, water-sanitation-hygiene and health infrastructure across 79 disasters. The association was sharper in low- and lower-middle-income countries. The study does not prove that a particular infrastructure investment would have saved lives.
Jezero's margin rocks record three separate water episodes
NASA's Perseverance account and the peer-reviewed paper distinguish at least three water-rock interaction episodes in Jezero crater's Margin Unit. Carbonate and silica occur below the former lake level, while calcium sulfate and fluorite appear in a later fracture; the episodes have not yet been dated.
Kingfisher raises its annual profit outlook after a stronger first half
Kingfisher's adjusted first-half profit before tax rose 9.9 percent to 404 million pounds, and the company raised annual guidance to 595-635 million pounds, above its previous 540-600 million range. Retail Gazette confirmed the 404 million pound profit, the 9.9 percent rise and the decision to lift the outlook. The two accounts do not agree on sales, so the sales figure is left out.
Lula and Flavio Bolsonaro are tied in runoff polls
Two simulated runoff polls put Brazil's presidential contest within their margins of error: Quaest placed Flavio Bolsonaro at 42 per cent and Lula at 41 per cent, while BTG Pactual/Nexus placed Lula at 46 per cent and Bolsonaro at 45 per cent. With the first round due on October 4, the near tie makes the narrowing race a central uncertainty after Jair Bolsonaro was barred from office.
