Filming targets spring 2027
The makers of Sleepless Nights 2 are targeting April or May 2027 for filming. The sequel to the Egyptian relationship drama focuses on a younger generation and its relationships. The production team outlined its plans at the El Gouna Film Festival.[1], [2]
Screenwriter Tamer Habib has completed a first draft and is working on a second. Karim El Shenawy is directing, with Cairo Films chief executive Wesam Seif Elislam producing. Cairo Films is partnering with Al Arabia Cinema International, which holds the original film’s rights and is intended to distribute the sequel.[1]
A new generation enters a two-day story
El Shenawy plans to compress the story into two days while retaining elements of the original’s structure. Habib said changes surrounding marriage and relationships persuaded him to revisit material he had resisted turning into a sequel for years. To understand younger perspectives, the team screened the first film for people near the new characters’ ages and discussed their responses.[1]
The original couples remain part of the sequel’s background
Released in 2003, Sleepless Nights followed four young couples through marriage, infidelity, friendship and emotional dissatisfaction. The sequel retains links to the original characters. Its cast has not been announced, and the filmmakers have not confirmed which earlier performers might return. Cairo and other, still undisclosed Egyptian locations are planned for the shoot.[1]
