Dallas Art Fair moves its 2027 edition to a university campus

Dallas Art Fair will leave its downtown venue for Southern Methodist University’s Armstrong Fieldhouse on 15–18 April 2027. The partnership adds educational programmes and internships to plans for larger gallery installations. The fair’s existing museum acquisition fund and opening gala will continue supporting local arts institutions after the move.

Armstrong Fieldhouse hosts the April fair

Dallas Art Fair, the contemporary art fair in Dallas, will hold its 2027 edition at Southern Methodist University (SMU) from 15 to 18 April. The move to the university’s Armstrong Fieldhouse takes it away from its longstanding home at the Fashion Industry Gallery in the downtown Arts District.[1], [2]

The new venue covers 67,000 square feet. Organisers say higher ceilings, natural light and an open floor plan will give galleries room for larger installations and more elaborate presentations. Founder John Sughrue described the move as an investment in the fair’s future and Dallas’s international cultural role.[1]

Students join the gallery programme

The university partnership includes internships and educational activities connecting students and faculty with galleries, artists and collectors. It is the first major initiative of SMU’s Dallas Office, established to strengthen ties with the city. The fair also gains closer links with the university’s Meadows School of the Arts, Meadows Museum, and art history and arts management programmes. Participating galleries are due to be announced in January.[1], [2]

Museum support continues after the move

Founded in 2009, the fair has raised nearly $3 million through its foundation for local arts institutions. Its acquisition fund with the Dallas Museum of Art has helped bring more than 75 works into the museum’s permanent collection. That museum, the Nasher Sculpture Center and Dallas Contemporary will continue to benefit from the opening gala at the new venue.[1]
