Junior Boys announces The Gore with Underneath the Moon

Junior Boys announced The Gore for 12 February 2027 and released its first single, Underneath the Moon. Jeremy Greenspan links the song’s tape loops to the horror film Skinamarink. The Canadian duo also plans album playbacks and screenings in Brooklyn, Seattle and Toronto, pairing the music with Michael Snow’s experimental film Wavelength.

The Gore arrives on 12 February

Junior Boys, the Canadian electronic pop duo of Jeremy Greenspan and Matt Didemus, announced The Gore for release through City Slang on 12 February 2027. Its first single, Underneath the Moon, is out now. John Smith directed the accompanying video.[1], [2]

Skinamarink inspired the tape loops

Greenspan said the song drew on the 2022 horror film Skinamarink and used loops made with an old Tascam tape machine. He described the technique as an homage to the ephemeral quality of analogue recording. The project’s background includes his interest in horror and science fiction and the deaths of his father and a childhood friend.[1], [2]

The announcement describes The Gore as a noisier counterpart to 2022’s Waiting Game, revisiting related themes. Its closing chords match the opening of Waiting Game, allowing the two albums to loop together. Underneath the Moon developed from K, an unreleased album Greenspan wrote around his father’s death in 2018, and draws on that project’s themes of Jewish prayer.[1]

Playbacks pair the album with Wavelength

Listening and screening events are scheduled for Public Records in Brooklyn on 27 January, The Beacon Cinema in Seattle on 30 January, and Standard Time in Toronto on 3 February. Each combines a complete album playback with visualisations, Michael Snow’s 1967 experimental film Wavelength, and questions and answers with Greenspan. The Gore contains eleven tracks, including Hineni, Ligeia and Yizkor.[1]
