Design installations return to the district in November
Dubai Design Week will hold its twelfth edition from November 3 to 8 at Dubai Design District, a creative district in the United Arab Emirates. Exhibitions, outdoor installations, talks and workshops will spread across the site. The festival’s Abwab commissioning programme becomes a group exhibition titled In Other Words. It explores language through signs, symbols, interfaces, gestures and oral histories, with five creative practices participating.[1], [2]
Three gardens surround a shared room
Three Gardens and a Room, by Dubai-based NAO Architects, won the festival’s Urban Commissions design competition. Founded by architect Reem Nassour, the practice arranged three gardens around a central gathering space in response to the Atmospheres theme. Foliage, shade, colour and filtered light shape the different environments. Japan’s Nikken Sekkei and SOBOKUYA will present CHATAI 2.0, an expanded timber structure combining traditional craftsmanship with space for communal making.[1]
Inherited materials shape a designers’ exhibition
The UAE Designer Exhibition returns under the title Inherited Futures, shaped by architect and designer AlZaina Lootah. Designers based in the United Arab Emirates reinterpret inherited materials, rituals and ways of making. Woods Bagot marks twenty-five years of work in the region with an exhibition. Young practitioners’ ceramics appear through Al Jalila Cultural Centre for Children, while workshops at the Maker Space include sessions led by university professors.[1]
