Gillan’s hospitalization interrupts two dates
Deep Purple postponed two concerts in Germany after an emergency involving singer Ian Gillan required hospital treatment. The band’s October 31 announcement covered that evening’s show at Leipzig’s QI Arena and the November 1 performance at Hamburg’s Sporthalle. Both were part of the German leg of the Splat! world tour.[1], [2]
Purchased tickets remain valid
The group and its team are looking for suitable dates to reschedule the two performances. Tickets already purchased will remain valid for the replacement shows. New dates were not provided in the announcement, which acknowledged the short notice and the disappointment for audiences. The band did not announce a diagnosis for Gillan’s medical emergency.[1]
Splat! follows the band’s work with Bob Ezrin
The tour takes its name from Splat!, released by earMUSIC on July 3. The album is Deep Purple’s sixth collaboration with producer Bob Ezrin, who has helmed every album by the group since Now What?! in 2013. In July, bassist Roger Glover had said the musicians were not planning a designated farewell tour or final concert.[1]
