Four contributors share the honour
Bafta Scotland has selected four people behind Outlander for its Outstanding Contribution to Television award. Actors and executive producers Sam Heughan and Catriona Balfe are among the recipients. The ceremony is scheduled for November 15 in Glasgow, following the series’ conclusion this summer after 12 years and eight seasons. Its story brought Diana Gabaldon’s novel series to an international television audience.[1], [2]
Scottish crews trained new entrants
The other recipients are Ronald D. Moore, who adapted the novels, and showrunner Matthew B. Roberts. Heughan played Jamie Fraser, a Jacobite soldier; Balfe played Claire, his time-travelling partner. Bafta Scotland cited the production’s contribution to Scotland’s screen industry and local talent. An initiative led by the team created more than 170 trainee roles. Moore described working with Scottish crews and locations, while Roberts recalled the practical welcome and guidance the local crew provided.[1]
The story continues through the parents
Outlander’s television world continues in Blood of My Blood, which began in 2025 and follows Jamie and Claire’s parents. Its second season premiered in September. Scotland’s tourism agency has also highlighted visitors’ interest in the landscapes seen on screen. Heughan previously received Bafta Scotland’s audience award in 2022; the new special honour recognises the wider team’s contribution to television production.[1]
